"Thank you" Pittwater Regatta - 2021

15 Feb 2021 by Emma Ingersoll

On behalf of PORCC committee, I would like to thank all our members and volunteers for your assistance pre/during/post our regatta held at Station Beach on 13 February, a day 42mm of rain fell and winds got to 38km. Conditions providing a welcomed challenge by competitors in the long course, despite the Cronulla boys going over and The Lakes women’s crew who went over in the short corse. A visiting crew got a shock as they were passing our local seals and were shocked when a seal jumped in front of their boat.

We welcomed a new club, Jervis Bay OC -  their first race 🤗

We welcomed a record number of minnows and juniors which was lovely to see.

The regatta was a huge success breaking all attendace records within the club and for AOCRA with 75 crews battling it out (compared to 44 crews in 2020). We had representation from 26/28 NSW OC Clubs (compared to 17 in 2020).

SAFETY BOATS
The club had big shoes to fill (Paul Flynn’s) organising safety boats this year, which John Ross did with style, precision and ease; ensuring all crews were in safe hands in rough conditions. To add to this Pete, John, Ash  were in safety boats being your “guardian angels” 😇, I even jumped into a safety boat to help out during the short course – which was wild, wet and windy 🤤

Our sister club PDBC did an awesome job putting on the sausage sizzle and I’ve had positive feedback from YNOT CREPES.

We had several ex-club members help out on the day; Monica, Murray – thank you.
